How do I transfer my domain name?

Transferring a domain to WEBHOST.NET.PK is not as complicated as it might seem.

Make sure your domain name is unlocked and that your WhoIs information is your current contact information.

Obtain an EPP Code (sometimes called an Authorization Code or Authentication Code) from your current registrar. This is usually a short string of random letters, numbers, and symbols that helps the gaining registrar understand that your old registrar has approved this transfer.

Some registrars have a button or form inside the client area/portal that allows you to request an EPP Code for a domain. The EPP Code should be automatically generated and sent to you upon submission. WEBHOST.NET.PK has a button for this.

Other registrars will require you to contact them via email or phone to request an EPP Code for your domain. It depends on the registrar.

If you already have a WEBHOST.NET.PK account: Login and click "Domains > Transfer Domains to Us". You will be prompted to enter your domain name and EPP Code. Submit the transfer request, and WEBHOST.NET.PK will email you when the domain transfer has been accepted.

If you do not yet have a WEBHOST.NET.PK account: Go to WEBHOST.NET.PK.com and click any of the Sign Up buttons. Choose the hosting package you would like, and then on the next page, select "Transfer your domain from another registrar". You will be prompted to enter your domain name and EPP Code. Once you have completed your order, WEBHOST.NET.PK will email you when the domain transfer has been accepted.

Domain transfers will be approved by WEBHOST.NET.PK within 24 – 48 hours.

After we have accepted the transfer, an email will be sent to your registrar contact email address (hence why step 1 is important.) You will need to follow the instructions in this email to approve the domain transfer. If you do not approve the transfer via this email within a certain timeframe, the transfer will be denied and the process will have to be restarted.

After you approve the transfer, it can take up to 7 days for the domain to fully transfer over to WEBHOST.NET.PK. It can take less time than this, but generally expect at least 3 – 4 days before receiving any update about the domain. This is true for all domain transfers between registrars. There is no guarantee the process will be faster with a different registrar, and domain transfer times can vary.

If you need your site to be running before the transfer, you will want to change your domain's nameservers to WEBHOST.NET.PK's before you start the transfer. Our nameservers are:

    ns1.webhost.net.pk

    ns2.webhost.net.pk

To avoid issues with your transfer, keep these things in mind:

When you transfer a domain name, an additional year of registration is added to the domain. This is an ICANN requirement and true for all registrars, not just WEBHOST.NET.PK. If you are charged for a domain transfer by WEBHOST.NET.PK, the charge is for the additional year of registration. The transfer itself is almost always free. (Your mileage may vary with other registrars.)

You can only transfer a domain to WEBHOST.NET.PK if we support the TLD (domain extension after the dot) of that domain. To see if we support a TLD, check for your TLD in our list of supported domain TLDs.

ICANN, the governing body of all domain names, has regulations that prohibit transferring domains that are less than 60 days old. Please wait at least 60 days after registering a domain before transferring it.

ICANN regulations also prohibit transferring a domain that will expire within 7 days. Please transfer your domain before this window.

EPP/Authorization Codes are required for the majority of domain transfers. You should assume that your domain will require an EPP Code to be transferred, unless you have a .co.uk or similar special TLD domain that does not require an EPP Code for transfers. (It will require a different piece of information, such as an IPS Tag.)

Please make sure the domain is not locked at your current registrar. Many registrars will lock your domain without your knowledge. You can usually check if your domain is locked or not by going to whois.com, typing in your domain, and looking for the "Status" field. If the status says "clientTransferProhibited" or similar, your domain is locked and you will need to get it unlocked before initiating the transfer.

WEBHOST.NET.PK will not charge you for additional domain transfers if the first domain transfer fails, but some registrars or resellers might. You will need to check with the registrar for their individual fees and policies.

It is not possible to transfer an expired domain. A domain will need to be renewed with the current registrar before initiating a transfer to another registrar.
